Station Taxis roll out credit card machines
Sunderland’s longest established taxi firm is gearing up for a programme of summer events in the City, with the introduction of credit and debit card payment machines in all of its vehicles.
Station Taxis has a fleet of almost 200 vehicles, and is the first taxi company in the City to roll out this facility for customers to use in every taxi.
Customers can now pay their fare using chip & pin and contactless cards, which is expected to be a big hit with both visitors to the city and local residents.
“We are delighted to announce that this facility is now available in all of our taxis operating across the City.
“This offers our customers a convenient and secure way to pay, meaning they can travel hassle-free without worrying about having change for their journey.
“Until now, this facility has only been available in a small percentage of taxis, however after increased demand for the service we decided to implement this in all of our vehicles.
“The City is set to welcome a huge influx of visitors as we prepare to host these prestigious international events, it was therefore essential we had this set up before the summer”

The Tall Ships Races expects to welcome an international fleet of over 50 Tall Ships, and will attract over 1.5million visitors to the City over the five day event running from 10-14th July.
This will be followed by the 30th Anniversary of the Sunderland International Airshow 27-29th July.
The news has been welcomed by event organisers and political leaders across the City.
